Mandy Sofia lost her fight with lymphoma at 10:07 pm on February 2, 2026. She was 12.5 years old. She passed on at home in her spot in the family room where she spent most of her time, as she loved to be around her family at all times. She was surrounded by her mom and dad and two of her sisters (human) and her little brother cat, Tigger, and her two little sister cats, Jasmine and Coraline, as she crossed the rainbow bridge. She also had her stuffed Snoopy doll, which we called her “boyfriend”. She was either dropping it at our feet in hopes that we would throw it and she could go after it, or she was cuddled up next to it when she slept.
Mandy Sofia was one of a kind. She was a purebred Westie, and she had the “Westitude” that comes with the breed. But she was a gentle soul. We got Mandy after deciding that we were done having children, but, two weeks later, we found out that we were pregnant with our youngest daughter. I trained Puppy Mandy while pregnant with my little one. Puppy Mandy enjoyed playtime with my then three year old immensely. The two of them would run around until Mandy fell over from exhaustion. Then my three year old would lay down next to her and they would take a nap right there on the ground. When the baby was born, Mandy couldn’t get enough of her. She sat by me every time I nursed the baby. She loved kissing her every chance she got, and she was most comfortable snuggled up next to her. When the baby could sit up by herself, Mandy would sit or lay right next to her. The baby took naps on the family room carpet so that Mandy could take a nap with her. As the girls grew, so did Mandy. The girls got very involved in dance, and Mandy loved to join. They would dress her up in costumes and she would pounce around as they would dance, as she happily wore a purple tutu. When they played outside, they’d all lay in the grass together, and we couldn’t tell if they were three dogs or three little girls. We were told not to get this breed if you have little kids. Without her, my girls wouldn’t know what a best friend was.
Mandy was a neighborhood dog. Westies are known for barking. And if Mandy didn’t know you, she’d run up to the fence, barking. But as soon as you talked to her and let her sniff you, she considered you a friend. If you ignored her, then she would bark every time that you came around until you made the correct choice to give her attention. At that point, when Mandy saw her neighbor friends, she’d run to the fence and trot alongside them as they walked by. Many people brought treats for her regularly. Mandy loved to be outside in the summer for the social aspect. She loved other dogs but most other dogs didn’t like her. But it was okay, because their owners did =)
Mandy was a personal space invader. She had to be sitting as close as she could to you, just in case you didn’t know she was there. She was very patient waiting for attention. She never jumped or barked. But by making sure there was ABSOLUTELY NO molecules of space between you and her, she made sure that you were aware of her presence.
Mandy learned four tricks as a puppy. She could sit, shake hands, lay down, and roll over. Eventually, if you didn’t pay attention to her, she would try all four tricks in a row, as a last resort. Also, if she wanted a treat, she would do all four tricks at once, to save you the trouble. She was thoughtful like that.
Most recently, Mandy had the opportunity to play the role of “Sandy” in All The World’s A Stage production of “Annie”. Due to her gentle nature, willingness to please everyone that she met, getting to be around several people who wanted to pet her at all times, and the fact that she walked on stage to a chorus of “awwwww” at every show, she was the perfect actress. She only lasted three weeks after the show, so one of the last but best memories that we all have of her is her under the spotlight in this iconic role.
Mandy leaves behind her loving humans (mom and dad Angela and Keith, brother Justin and sister Sierra, who live on their own, and Jessica and Audra, her human sisters), and her cats; Tigger, Jasmine, and Coraline.
Mandy joins several friends now across the rainbow bridge…her cat brother, Toby, who just left us less than two months ago, also of cancer, her cat brother Dakota, and her cat sisters Aspen, Savannah, and Lightning. Mandy loved her kitty friends dearly, and spent a lot of time cuddled up with them, playing with them, and conspiring to steal cheeseburgers with them.
If there is such a thing as reincarnation and you get to be in your next life what you deserve from your last life, then Mandy should be given the best of everything in her next life. She was really the sweetest and most loving soul I’ve ever met.

  1. She will always be in your hearts. She’s now chasing her kitty siblings free of pain but full of joy! It’s never easy losing a beloved pet, but the time you all shared together will be cherished memories to live on forever.
