Moonshine
Beloved Protector, Loyal Companion, Family
Moonshine, our devoted Cane Corso, passed peacefully surrounded by love after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of bone cancer. She was almost nine years old.
From the moment she came home at just six weeks old, Moonshine became the heart and guardian of our family. Weighing 120 pounds, with striking red-rimmed eyes and a presence that commanded respect, she was fiercely protective and unwaveringly loyal. To the outside world, she could appear intimidating — but to us, she was nothing more than a gentle, devoted, oversized baby.
Moonshine believed personal space was optional. She proudly sat on laps despite her size, slept in bed each night with her human, and would wake us by placing her nose gently against ours. Her tail wagged with such joy it left bruises on our legs — marks we would gladly take again. She danced in the kitchen for tastes of dinner, loved car rides, and wore her collar like a cherished necklace.
Though stubborn and strong-willed, she had the softest heart. She never destroyed her stuffed animals but carried her “babies” gently in her mouth, proudly showing them off whenever she received a new one. Christmas mornings were her favorite — she delighted in opening gifts as if she understood every bit of the celebration.
Moonshine loved deeply and completely. She instinctively knew when someone in our family needed comfort and would quietly rest her head in our laps, offering steady presence without being asked. She guarded not just our home, but our hearts.
Her passing leaves an immeasurable space in our lives. She was not “just a dog.” She was family. She was protection. She was comfort. She was home.
Moonshine will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held in the coming weeks to honor the love and loyalty she gave so freely.
She ran her race with strength and dignity.
Now she rests without pain.
Forever loved. Forever ours.
