I never wanted to know what it was going to be like living in a world without her. And now that I do know, I am reminded again and again that this is permanent. She’s never coming back. I found her all those years ago at a bus stop in the middle of the night. Had our car not broken down in that area, had we not had to wait for a taxi, we would have never met.

I held her in my arms the whole ride home. I’ll never forget that day. She was the sweetest cat, always my shadow, always with me. She slept with me every night. If I called her name, she was there. She loved being held and would often fall asleep in my arms.

I miss it all. I miss everything. I don’t think I will ever have a bond like that again. I don’t know if I could be that lucky twice.

She was with me through some of the worst years of my life. The one constant was her. Loving, sweet. If I cried, she would come up to me. If I slept, she would sleep on me.

The day she died, my heart broke. I hope that, if there’s something else out there after we pass away, that one day I’ll be able to hold her again.

Faithful Companion did a wonderful job taking care of her remains. It only took day or two for her to go from my local veterinarian’s office to the crematory and into an urn. Knowing she wasn’t just sitting in a fridge somewhere was comforting. Had I known at the time that I could have brought her body to Faithful Companion myself, I would have. I’m grateful knowing the option is there for the future. Because we silly pet lovers will do this to ourselves again and again.

Give me another 15 years. I’ll be back crying as I type all over again. :’)
