I went to a shelter feeling lonely
All the dogs they seemed so lowly
But amongst the sadness should there be
One dog excited, just to see me

Your fur was black your eyes so brown
Your tail could knock a grown man down
Your chest was speckled in spots so white
Your silly face made things feel right

So out we went for our first walk
Set to show me what you’ve got
You did your best to make it known
That you’re the one I should take home

At length they told me about your past
Three homes before you didn’t last
Your chance of leaving was looking slim
And your outlook, was getting grim

But I did not care about your start
Your loving eyes, they stole my heart
So I signed my name upon the line
And I promised you’d always be mine

Since then each day you’d be excited
My mere arrival made you delighted
A precious ball of just pure love
The greatest gift from up above

For seven years you raised the stakes
And now my heart, it really aches
For far away your love has flown
And left me here to be alone

My home is cold, so void of sound
I keep expecting you around
But I must accept that you are gone
Even though it feels so wrong

I kept my promise that you were mine
Even until it was your time
And now I wait, my dear departed friend
Until you’ll be excited, to see me again
