I wish I could have saved you
From feeling so much fear
To take away the loss you felt
And hold you ever near
If only I had thought ahead
As I look back with if only
Perhaps you’d know my strength and love
Not felt so lost and lonely
Perhaps you’d see the birds of spring
And hear its gentle wind
If only now your heart could hold
All the love I send
But never will there be a day
That I do not miss your face
Your eyes of such compassion
Your heart so filled with grace
If only I could reach to you
I’d give you such a hug
To let you know forever more
You’ll always be my Pug
I could not slow the spiral
Until life’s journey met its end
It hurts to know that deep inside
I’ve failed you, my sweet friend
But eternity is never held
Within the arms of man
Its beauty lies world’s beyond
All we can understand
So it matters not our weakness
For God’s love is sure and strong
It reached right down to lift you up
To just where you belong
So I release you into heavens gates
For love awaits you there
Arms are there to hold you
To let you know they care
So, leap across those flower fields
And smile there every day
For, while we were busy crying
God had made the way
