Halo was a wonderful doggy. Just look at that face. He was big 180#, but gentle. He loved people, but not other dogs. He had his own personality. He would listen when he wanted to, but knew right from wrong. He would do anything for the right treat. He would take things waiting for the bribe to drop it. When he was young he would take my hankerchief from my pocket (the hanky thief) and later a shoe lying next to the door when you came home to get a treat. He would grab anything he could fit in his mouth and defend it for a treat. He was so tall he would plant his nose on the table. He had even moved it sideways to knock things on the floor declaring this was his (in his domain). He would not bite, but put up a show. He would let you know if he wanted something (drink from the tub, treat, go outside). He loved to talk to the neighbourhood dogs. He would howl like a wolf from the weather test sirens.
He was a climber and chased after the wildlife which showed up in the yard. The front window was his TV. He would watch it all day letting passersby know that he was watching especially dogs. He was our couch and loveseat potatoe and sometimes watched TV with us. When he was young he would leap across the living room into the couch and later he would climb up. He knew when it was his birthday and Christmas. He would tear open his presents when told it was ok. He was our guard dog laying down to cover all the bedroom doors or the front door when everyone was away. In the backyard he had his spots to look between the neighbor’s yard and the street watching for any opportunity to let anyone know he was there. He would wait for the neighbor’s dog to come out so he could run along the fense and bark at him. He would grab my mover and bite the wheel when I started mowing and even picking the mower up on occasion. He liked wandering through the garden, providing shade and leaving his mark behind for me to step in. Returning from a trip he was always the greeter smilling from ear to ear happy to see you. Guests to the house were always a treat for Halo to say hi and get attention. Halo wasn’t always thrilled to be primped, he would get combedbrushed (we should have made sweaters with the fur), ears cleaned, teeth brushed and vasoline on his nose and paws. I don’t think he enjoyed his occational trip to the poochie bath, but was happy to be picked up. He was very good about getting his muddy feet washed. He would come in muddy and sometimes would walk to the bath tub without being told.
Goodbye, our big bruiser, our big boy, our baby, our pretty boy, our fluffy butt, our boat anchor, our roadblock, our horse. We love you and we will keep you in our hearts always. We miss you so much. Our hearts are broken, shattered. We all hope you are in a happy place having all the cooked chicken you can eat and can visit us when you want. You are and will always be, part of our family always.
With Love,
Your Family
