Lacy was my soul dog and always will be. She lived a wonderful life starting at my nana’s house where she was born and where I got to visit her as she grew old enough to take home. She was lucky enough to be able to visit her mom often at my nana’s and they would be overwhelmed with joy when they would see each other. She didn’t like to play with dogs really, but she LOVED to play and wrestle with her mom. She also loved to play with balls and fetch just like her dad. She loved keep-away and tug of war and had the strongest grip I’ve ever seen. She seemed to feel most at home in my arms and knew exactly how to tell me to hold her just right like she wanted. Everyday, multiple times a day, she would jump at my legs and bark asking to be picked up as if she was a toddler saying “uppie momma! Uppie!”. I had to hold her in my left arm and with my right had hold her back feet and she would tuck her nose into my elbow crease to keep her nose warm because it was always cold for some reason. She trusted me so deeply you could tell just by how she was in my arms, completely limp and asleep in seconds. She was always sweet, strong-willed, gentle, loyal, friendly, and playful. Even in her last days she would get her “sillies” as we called it, where she would rub her head into the couch and snort repeatedly while digging into the fabric messing up her hair and look back at me to encourage me to join in and rub her head to help rile her up more and she would fake snarl and go on like that for sometimes 5 minutes or more. That’s how we knew when she was feeling happy and content (often after she just had a meal). And oh yes the food was one of her biggest joys and continued to be until her last day. I’m glad she got to hold onto that remaining pleasure in life all the way to the end. To say the least she was an incredible and very very dearly loved family member. She captured the heart of everyone she met no matter how old she looked and acted. She will never be forgotten and I hope to be with her again one day wherever that may be.
