Lucky George was found after being tossed from a truck onto a busy median in Cool Springs, TN in 2008. Our neighbors rescued the terrified kitten, and found a kind woman a few houses down the street –named Shirley– to take him in. Shirley passed away in 2010 from ALS, and the new owners of the house (my husband Dennis and I) agreed to keep George in HIS home. George remained in HIS home for his entire life, entertaining us and fiercely patrolling the neighborhood. As he aged, he grew into a gentle lover of laps and would perform tricks for treats. Smart kitty! George took care of my husband for five years when he became gravely ill; when my husband passed last November I came home to George, picked him up and told him, “Hey, Daddy’s not coming home, it’s you and me against the world now.” George gave all of his love to me, easing me through the devastation of losing my soulmate. Unbeknownst to me–at the same time– a deadly squamous cell carcinoma had taken hold in the back of his throat, an aggressive and very painful condition. In April it became clear George was suffering and could no longer enjoy food, his favorite thing. I loved Lucky George so much that I held him in my arms for several hours, loving on him as much as I could, before veterinarian Dr. Nora came to the house and sent my beloved “Georgio” on his way over the Rainbow Bridge. He was such a Lucky Boy! We were blessed to live in HIS house with him all these years! Until soon, my dear boy . . .
