My beautiful boy was born while I was twelve years old, while I was in sixth grade. My friends lived right down the road from me and that day on the bus when they told me that their cat had had her litter of kittens, I practically flew to their house. He was the only one still wet from birth and I knew he was going to be mine.
He was with me while I graduated from high school. I got pregnant shortly thereafter and that cat hovered over me relentlessly. He curiously welcomed my perfect(ly whole) little boy and watched him grow. He, in his majestic own way, comforted me through a miscarriage and with ending the five year “high school sweetheart” relationship that had turned toxic and dangerous. He saw me find healthy comfortable love and fell for my fiancé as well (I’ll attribute that to my fiancé being a cat guy too)
It was with my forever man, on Sunday the 13th of September, that we found out (after a days of nothing in the litter box) he had a lump closing his throat off making eating and drinking impossible. A tight financial situation (and personal ethics) stopped me from removing and having a biopsy of the lump.
He passed four days later peacefully in my arms.
I’m blessed to have been able to be by his side for his first day, his last breath, and every moment in between.
