Duke

A hungry stray dog wandered into our yard on May 16, 2009 and changed us forever. He became part of our family and the center of our days. This dog had such a special soul, it was so hard to understand how anyone could have thrown him away for he was nearly human with his actions. We cared for him as if he was our child and gave him everything we could- the best care and most importantly a second chance at life. Everyone who met this dog could not help but to love him for he was so kind to all that helped him along the way. He was a wonderful companion – loved to run big circles in the yard, eat snow, wade in his pond, sniff everything in the yard, then to chase the deer and turkey. Unfortunately, as he aged, knee issues arose, arthritis took over the hind legs and the adventurous walks got shorter and shorter but he still wanted to sniff everything in the yard and watch the cars as they went by.
We had to say goodbye to him on Monday, September 20, 2021. It is hard to believe that our house is so quiet now without him. Although our hearts are broken and we miss him dearly, we have miles of wonderful memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Rest in Peace- Duke

Duke was such a special dog. I remember meeting him for the first time. Although they (my sister and brother-in-law) didn’t plan on you…once I said you were Duke and your friend was Daisy, you had a home! They took care of you and gave you more than most people could ask for. You gave them so much love and joy! Such a gentle protective soul. RIP Sir Duke. Love you.
