Lily

Lily set the bar high being my first dog. She was so well behaved and the sweetest companion. She grew up with cats so her behavior kind of resembled that of a cat. She was Lily the cat dog. My favorite memory of her was when I would let her run free in an open field, she’d run back to me at full speed but slow down just enough so I wouldn’t get knocked down. She’d give me a kiss or 2 and take off again. Later in life Lily gained a mother. Lily loved her mother since the day they met. Her mother’s favorite thing about Lily was her floppy ears. 4 years before Lily’s departure she gained a sister, Cleo. They became the best snuggle buddies. Cleo had a lot more energy than Lily but she still loved her.

The memory is clear as day of when I saw her for the first time sitting in a cage at the shelter. I knew from that moment I was going to take her home. I was not a “dog person” before Lily. She has literally helped shape the person I am today.

There is an emptiness in my heart, life won’t be the same without her. Lily will live on in our memories and she will be forever loved and missed.
