Porky

My Porky boy was my baby! He was only 9 years old and sadly, I had to put him to sleep this past Monday. He was in severe kidney failure and it seemed to come out of no where. When I took him to the emergency vet, they did bloodwork and an xray and said he was born with only one kidney and that his kidney function would never recover.
I was not ready to say goodbye so I opted to try treatment with IV fluids first to see if his lab values would improve. They told me he would be there up to 4 days and they would call me twice a day with updates.
Well, they called 8 hours later and said he was worse and would not recover and that the only humane thing to do was to euthanize him. He was on pain and had not produced any urine, despite getting iv fluids. I was crushed! I was not ready to let him go, but did not want him suffering.
This was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. But, I’m so grateful that I was able to hold him in my arms as he took his last breath. I’m comforted in knowing that he knew how much I loved him! I will never recover from this and will love and miss him forever!
